A report of a chief of department of Stutthof concentration camp regarding amount of prisoners' hair
Comment: Profits gained by the camp was coming not only from forced labour of prisoners but also from their bodies - during their lives and after they died. Dead prisoners were deprived of their dental gold and silver, which then - according to an order of SS reichsführer Heinrich Himmler - were sent to SS-WVHA.
Since August 1942 directives began to appear regarding use of human hair for industrial purposes. According to an order from SS-WVHA cut hair of prisoners were sold to selected chemical companies. The report testifies that in January 1943 total amount of 27.5 kg of hair were collected. They belonged to men who had their hair cut after arrival to the camp. Some hair belonged also to women who had their hair cut as a punishment. Until March 1943 next 20.5 kg of hair were collected, all of which were sent to a German company Reimann AG by Wroclaw. Receipt for these merchandise came to 24 German marks (RM).
