Former Communist Party chief charged with 'communist crimes'
2006-04-11, 08:26
Former Communist Party chief, Stanislaw Kania, has been charged with "belonging to an illegal armed grouping".

He served as party chief from September 1980 to October 1981, when he was replaced by general Jaruzelski. He was a co-signatory with Jaruzelski of a text which laid the ground for the imposition of martial law in December 1981. Kania said he did not feel any guilt over the charges brought against him by the National Remembrance Institute.
