European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Prime minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz have appealed for a quick deal on the EU budget for 2007-2013.
Barroso who held talks with the new Polish premier on relations between the EU and Poland’s new minority Law and Justice government said he hopes for Poland to "abide by all European values". Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz and Jose Manuel Barroso spoke of the need for Britain, as the current president of the 25 EU nation, to step up efforts to reach agreement on the block's budget.
Both politicians also discussed the role of Poland in the EU and the need for loyalty. Brussels is the first stop of Marcinkiewicz’s first official visit. The premier's aim is to allay fears which aroused in the EU after the formation of the new conservative Law and Justice government in Poland, which has an informal deal with the Euro sceptic far right and populist farmers' grouping will concentrate on Poland's role and partnership within the EU. After a two day stay in Brussels the Polish premier will leave for London.
