Poland to support 'Berlin Declaration'
2007-03-18, 10:37
President Lech Kaczynski announced last night that Poland will sign the Berlin Declaration, which is intended to restart progress towards an EU 'Constitution'.

The announcement came after the two day visit to Poland by Chancellor Angela Merkel.

At the Polish president's summer retreat in Jurata on the Baltic Coast the two heads of state discussed the EU Constitution, the progress of which stalled after two 'no' votes in referenda in France and the Netherlands.

President Kaczynski said yesterday that Poland will sign the Berlin Declaration even though no mention as yet is made of 'Christian values' in the preamble to the planned constitution. Poland also objects to any change to the voting system within the EU.
