According to unofficial information, it is possible that president Bronisław Komorowski will invite leaders of France and Germany to Weimar Summit this year.
Few locations are taken into consideration – and Cracow is one of them. The last summit in which Weimar Triangle leaders participated, took place in Mettlach, Germany, in December 2006. It is said that Polish president would like those meetings to take place more often, while the consultations would also cover energy security issues and the EU - Russia relations.
The Weimar Triangle serves the cooperation between Poland, Germany and France in area of foreign policy, defense, security and cultural and science exchange. Consultations and mutual agreements are set during annual conferences of Ministers of National Defense and member countries’ Parliament’s Foreign Affairs commissions. Leaders’ summits are another form of contacts.
The Weimar Triangle was initiated in 1991 during the meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers in Weimar.
