The question of US visas for Polish citizens has become one of the main issues in American presidential campaign. Both candidates John Kerry and George W. Bush try to win the votes of Poles living in the USA.
American Polish Advisory Council (APAC), which main purpose is to develop a stronger and clearer voice for Polish Americans in public affairs, presented both candidates with seven postulates. Among them the postulate of employing more Polish Americans in public administration and the visa waiver agreement.
John Kerry was the first to answer the Council. He announced that as the president of the United States together with Polish government and American Congress he will work on including Poland in the no-visa program. Moreover, the candidate of democratic party promised to simplify current visa procedures and lower the payment for visa application.
Republican candidate, president George W. Bush was not so eager to make promises. He named the issue of visas for Polish citizens as "very sensitive". Nonetheless, he expressed his hope that with time Poland will meet the requirements of no-visa program.
