Born in 1949 in Bielsko-Biala. In 1972, graduated from the Philology Faculty at Jagiellonian University. 1972-77 - teacher at a general -education secondary school in Bielsko-Biala and then, until 1980, manager of the local cultural centre. In 1981, managed the Podbeskidzie University of the Solidarity Trade Union and, upon return from internment, worked for two years as an instructor at the cultural centre. Since 1984, works in the Scientific, Technical and Economic Information Centre at "Redor" Research and Development Centre in Bielsko-Biala (since 1989, on an unpaid leave of absence for the duration of the mandate).
In the 1980s, was on the board of the official and, subsequently, banned Solidarity Trade Union in Beskidy Region. Was interned in 1981-82 and arrested in 1983. Since 1988, was active in the national leadership of the banned Solidarity Trade Union. Participated in "Round Table" negotiations with the Communist government. In 1989, was elected to the Sejm from the Solidarity Civic Committee. Between 1990 and 1991, belonged to the Democratic Union. Since 1992, belongs to the Freedom Union and is a member of its National Council.
Deputy to the Sejm between 1989 and 2001. For six years worked in economic committees and the next six years devoted to education. In the 3rd term Sejm, chaired the Education, Science and Youth Committee.
In 1998, initiated jointly with IT education coordinators the program "Internet Workshop in Every Gmina" and, in 1999, "Internet Workshop in Every Secondary School". Currently leads the Interkl@sa project, which aims at preparing the youth for an unimpeded functioning in the information society. See: www.interklasa.pl
Chairs the Council of the Economic Education Foundation and is a founding member of the Beskidy Association for the Support of Initiatives in Sports, Recreation and Tourism and of the Beskidy Educational Association.
